How to increase the number of visitors to your web site?

A web site however nicely designed doesn’t serve its purpose unless it is seen by the targeted audience. A lot of highly successful websites with simple layouts get lots of visitors because they get the promotion right.

The process of increasing traffic to your website comprises of several ingredients, which should be carried out in the right mix to obtain desired results.

Search Engine Optimization
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can be defined as the process of altering the content or structure of your web site so that it ranks higher in the pages of search engine results while a specific key word is being searched. The higher the website gets ranked the greater the probability of the site being visited.

Most people arrive at a website after conducting a search. Therefore, SEO becomes necessary because your site is unlikely to have any visitors unless it gets shown on the results page, letting people know about its existence.
Use Internet Advertising:
Pay per click ads:
Pay per click (PPC) is an Internet marketing method used in advertising networks, websites, and search engines. PPC ads are commonly found advertisements found in the search results page of a search engine. The advertiser has to pay a small sum when the ad gets clicked. A successful pay-per-click search engine campaign involves multiple tasks such as: selecting the most cost-effective keyword phrases, selecting the best PPC programs, writing effective ads, designing and writing effective landing pages PPC is of two types:
Search-based ads:
• This type is more effective of the two. Here someone is looking for a product or service and your ad gets displayed.
Non-search-based ads:
• Here ads get displayed when products or services are related to a page. For example, Google Ad-Sense puts related ads after checking for page context.

Commonly the ads displayed are the result of a bidding process or by charging a flat fee. The main advantage of pay per click advertising is that although the ad appears more than once, the advertiser only pays when the visitor clicks on it.

Email Marketing
Email is an effective and economical tool that can be used to promote one’s products and services over the Internet. A signature tag can be added to your email id detailing your product or services serving to inform customers about the company while sending out newsletters to potential customers. Unlike other types of marketing, customers can be targeted immediately and cost-effectively. Emails are also being used to enhance customer service thereby building stronger bonds with customers. However, it is important to avoid unwanted emails or spam as they are likely to annoy the user.
Viral Marketing
Viral marketing is a technique that encourages individuals to forward a marketing message to others, creating an opportunity for the exponential growth in the message's influence and exposure. Viral marketing has been called "word-of-mouth," "creating a buzz," "leveraging the media," "network marketing." For example you could add a "Recommend This Site to a friend" script on your site.
Links from other sites
Linking your website with other websites has two key advantages: it enhances your position in some search engines and it can bring traffic from users who are browsing other sites to your site. Inter site linking must be a bit difficult and yield negative results like losing visitors if done incorrectly. Generating on line traffic is an ongoing process just as maintaining a leading position in your business is. The best thing would be to provide information in the website in a logical manner so that it would keep the visitors interested. Context links are the most indispensable links because they signify that somebody else considered your website worthy apart from you.
Discussion Boards
Many discussion boards allow a tag line under your name where you can provide your website address providing an ideal opportunity not only for generating traffic from people reading the post but also permit additional indexing of your web site if a crawler happens to read that message Answering questions not only helps you to put your tag line in another place on the internet, but also assists making your potential visitors of your know-how.
